For 38 years, Ron Black was the guy nobody was supposed to notice. That is the job, and few have ever done it better.

A 1982 graduate of Lima Bath, Ron worked baseball at nearly every level the sport has. With the OHSAA he worked numerous sectional and district games, 13 regional assignments, and 9 state appearances. Within ACME he worked countless playoff games and two State Tournament assignments. He umpired NCAA Division I, II, and III baseball as well as NAIA, and spent 9 years in professional baseball in the Frontier League.

The postseason assignments piled up because the work was that good: 8 NCAA Regionals, 2 Super Regionals, and in 2022 the NCAA Division III College Baseball World Series. He was known for strong game management, command of the rulebook, and a real devotion to the craft.

Ron has given just as much away from the plate. He is the current supervisor of umpires for the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League and assigns college baseball in the spring, and he has spent years mentoring and training the next generation of officials. He has also worn the other uniform. He coached Jr. ACME baseball at Bath, served three years as a varsity assistant at Lima Senior, spent 9 seasons as head coach of Lima's American Legion Post 96, and one year with Bellefontaine Legion.

He retired from the field at the end of the 2025 season with the respect of every dugout he ever walked past. Ron and his wife, Suzy, have four adult children, Tyler, Katie, Brady, and Morgan, and seven grandchildren.

Toby Siefring has been around ACME Baseball just about as long as he can remember, and he has held nearly every job the game has to offer.

His first one was batboy. He can still picture the good old days at Coldwater, watching Coach Lou Brunswick go toe to toe with the Parkway teams coached by Mike Schumm. He chased foul balls before he ever chased a fly ball, and the sound of a late night tournament game at Coldwater has never quite left him.

He played in the 1990s, took his first Jr. ACME coaching job in 2003, and coached at both levels in the years that followed. Around 2015 he began helping Lou Brunswick with District 4, and today he serves as the District 4 Commissioner and as a member of the ACME Board of Directors. He has also served as a State Tournament host, which means he has spent plenty of summer nights making sure the lights are on and the field is ready for somebody else's kids.

"Late night games, usually in tournament and even the State Tournament at Coldwater," Toby says, "whether it being chasing foul balls as a youngster, playing, coaching or in today's times of directing. Great memories and games with many great people."

He found out about his induction after slipping out of a board meeting early to get to his daughter's game, and he did not believe it. "It certainly is a humbling honor, especially when you have such high respect for those already inducted," he said. "I guess it also means that times have moved along and we are just getting older. Ha."

Toby thanks his wife, Erin, and his family for the remarkable understanding and support that all those nights away from home require, along with every District 4 program for their dedication to ACME. Next summer he gets to see the game from one more angle. His son, Lane, enters Coldwater High School this fall and joins the ACME program.

Andy Singer's ACME story starts with three pitches.

It was 1995. Fairview was playing in the ACME State Tournament at Lima Shawnee, and the game got rained out with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. Everybody made the drive back the next day for one out. Andy got the ball, threw three pitches to finish it, looked up, and heard a crowd that was somehow louder and larger than the day before. Fairview's run that summer ended as state runner-up. Andy has never forgotten what that felt like.

He started coaching Fairview's ACME team in 1998 and has been part of the program ever since, as a coach, a manager, and a tournament runner. His teams have been to the state level again and again: ACME state runner-up in 2002, third place in 2005, state participants in 2016 and 2025, a Jr. ACME state appearance in 2005, and the 2022 Jr. ACME State Championship, won in a packed house at Defiance by a group of young, hard nosed kids who fought their way to it. That same group set multiple school records as seniors and reached the state final four at 28-5.

Today Andy serves ACME as an Assistant Commissioner and as a member of the ACME Board of Directors. He is a believer in what the summer game does for a kid. "ACME is a high school baseball player's opportunity to get a feel for the next level of play," he says. "ACME is just as important to coaches evaluating kids as it is for kids to gain experience and have a place to play during the summer months."

Nobody gets to that list of names alone, and Andy is the first to say so. "When you look at the list of people that ACME has inducted, I wonder why my name is listed next to them," he said. His father, Tony Singer, has been his assistant every single season since 1998 and an assistant tournament manager every year at both levels, approaching his 75th season of coaching at Fairview. His wife, Beverly, has been behind the scenes since the day they married in 2002. His children, Bethany and Anthony, grew up at the ballpark, dipping water out of buckets to get games back on and learning to chalk a field before sunrise.
